In-charge Auxiliary (Engineering Outfitting, SCS – Production) AM/DM

Job Summary and Purpose

The In-charge Auxiliary Outfitting is the production leader responsible for the flawless execution of installation, precision alignment, and pre-commissioning of all Auxiliary Machinery, HVAC, and major mechanical outfitting equipment within the vessel.

This critical role ensures:

1. Accurate mounting of pumps, compressors, purifiers, ventilation fans, and deck machinery.
2. Structural integrity and correct system integration.
3. Adherence to Class rules and project schedules in the Ship Construction Site (SCS).

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

A. Production Planning & Control

1. Develop detailed micro-plans for machinery mounting, alignment, and ventilation/outfitting schedules.
2. Monitor resource allocation (manpower, tools) and track progress using ERP/SAP systems.
3. Ensure production milestones are met on time and within scope.

B. Auxiliary Machinery Installation

1. Supervise safe handling, lifting, and precision mounting of all auxiliary equipment (pumps, compressors, purifiers, sewage treatment plants, auxiliary boilers).
2. Ensure foundation integrity and adherence to OEM installation procedures.

C. Machinery Alignment & Chocking

1. Manage machinery alignment processes, including checking coupling clearances and securing bases.
2. Oversee preparation and pouring of chocks (epoxy/metal) for major auxiliaries to ensure vibration-free operation and Class approval.

D. General Mechanical Outfitting & HVAC

1. Direct installation of non-piping mechanical outfitting components, including ventilation ducts, fans, exhaust systems, access ladders/gratings, and engine room safety equipment.
2. Ensure all HVAC system interfaces are correctly fitted and sealed.

E. Pre-Commissioning & Trials Support

1. Execute pre-commissioning checks for machinery (lubricating oil filling, cooling system readiness, functional checks of pumps/purifiers).
2. Support initial running-in and functional checks of auxiliary equipment during Harbour Acceptance Trials (HAT).

F. Quality Assurance & QHSE Compliance

1. Ensure installation and alignment works comply with Class Society rules (IRS, DNV, LRS) and approved drawings.
2. Enforce rigorous Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) protocols during lifting, heavy machinery handling, and confined space work.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Preferred Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s Degree (B.E./B.Tech) in Mechanical Engineering or Marine Engineering (mandatory).

Preferred Experience

1. 8–12 years in Shipbuilding/Ship Repair sector.
2. 4–6 years focused on installation, alignment, and commissioning of shipboard Auxiliary Machinery and Mechanical Outfitting in a supervisory/in-charge capacity.

Functional and Behavioral Competency

1. Expert knowledge in marine machinery installation, alignment methods (laser/straight-edge), and chocking procedures (epoxy/metallic).
2. Proficiency in HVAC/ventilation system erection and functional testing of auxiliary equipment.
3. Deep understanding of Class-mandated outfitting standards.
4. Strong technical leadership, execution management, and problem-solving skills for mechanical outfitting and machinery interface issues.
5. Proven ability to coordinate schedules and manage large field teams with a focus on safety and quality.
